Brand Strategy

The Brief

ALWC is a growing church in a rural, medium-sized lake town. If there's anything this church has seen and ministered to, its hopelessness. With high drug use and other issues, the town of Slave Lake needs a light like ALWC.

Their goal was simply to bring life to their identity. Their church is growing, and this seemed like a logical next step for them. From out-dated to modern and engaging.

Positioning

ALWC needed to move forward with a focus on two things. First, to be a place of belonging for anyone, especially the broken. Next, to relentlessly meet the needs of young families.

Messaging/Slogan

A new slogan was on the list of "musts" for ALWC. Through our process together, we landed on two options.

"Live Free" or "Far From Perfect"

The final decision was "Live Free," a much needed message that's only found in Jesus.

Project Snapshots
The Logo

The word "life" in church branding often elicits a leaf. We were told no leaves whatsoever! Sounded good to us! We were given creative freedom to come up with some options. "AL" would be a bonus.

With two options including "AL" and one option representing their building combined with lake town vibes, we left the deciding up to their team. To our surprise, the circular logo wasn't chosen! In fact, they loved the second "AL" option.

The Final Decision
Colour

In terms of colour, we wanted to bring in all that is associated with a lake town simply for the purpose of visual appeal. A trustworthy lake blue and sunset yellow did the trick.
